Pastor

Dan Carlton has been the pastor of Downtown since March of 2011. Prior to becoming the pastor of DBC he was the pastor of Spring Hill Baptist Church in Ruckersville, VA for 18 years. Dan received his Bachelor of Arts from Averett University in Danville, VA, his Master of Divinity from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC and his Doctor of Ministry from Palmer Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA. Dan is active in Virginia Baptist life – serving on many committees through the years. He is also on the Board of Trustees at Averett University and Fresh Expressions US. Dan and his wife Emily have been married for 21 years and are the parents of 3 children. Dan is a big fan of the Phillies and the Redskins. He is an avid reader, likes to run and enjoys history.

Krystal Speed - Interim Children's Director

Interim Children's Director

Krystal started in February, 2014. Krystal has a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instructional Leadership from Vanderbilt University and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from South Carolina State University. She has worked in both DC and Fairfax Public Schools. She brings an enthusiasm to our ministry and has a heart for making a difference in the lives of children.

Dave Brown - PT Worship Leader

Dave Brown

PT Worship Leader

Dave has extensive experience in both traditional and contemporary settings, building worship teams, and creating the worship environment. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Tennessee Tech and a Masters of Music from Indiana University. He has over 20 years experience leading worship in churches.
Dave is the principal Tuba and Announcer/Master of Ceremonies for The United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own.” In addition he is involved in community organizations including the Alexandria Symphony.
Dave grew up as a “preacher’s kid.” His dad was a church planter and his mom was the music director. He has been involved in church music for as long as he could stand still. Dave and his wife Jennifer are the parents of two children.

Natalie Gibson Grimes  - Pianist

Natalie Gibson Grimes

Pianist

Natalie Gibson Grimes serves as our pianist. She also leads preschool music days at DBC. Natalie is a classically trained pianist with a passion for music education. She earned her Bachelor of Music in piano performance from Shenandoah Conservatory and Master of Music in piano performance and pedagogy from Ohio University. She also studied at the Grieg Academy of Music in Bergen, Norway. Natalie runs Seeds of Sound Studio (www.seedsofsoundstudio.com) in Alexandria.

Teresa Simmons

Teresa Simmons is our Comptroller. She has worked at DBC for 12 years. She is responsible for our financial records and is our point person for our database. She can help you with online giving and answer questions about the church’s budget.
Mariana Alvarado -

Mariana Alvarado

Mariana Alvarado is the new administrative assistant at the office. Mariana earned a B.A in Graphic Design in 2000. After going back to school in 2011, and completing a certificate program in web design, she joined Empowered Women International, a non-profit organization in Alexandria, as a part time graphic designer volunteer. She has a nine year old son with whom she enjoys practicing tennis. Aside being a graphic designer and a mom, she is taking entrepreneurship classes so she can also start her own business one day.

Ron Allen -  Youth Director

Ron Allen

Youth Director

Ron is a graduate of the University of the South and has his Master of Arts in United States History from Howard University. He worked for several years at Martha's Table developing innovative programs to help impact the lives of teenagers in Washington, DC. We are excited about the impact Ron will make on teenagers as he serves with DBC.
