Seniors

From the founding of our church to the present, senior adults have had, and continue to have an active, meaningful role in church life at Downtown Baptist, especially to further our church mission…“To help people grow from baby believers to fully devoted and developed followers of Jesus Christ.”

What is ‘Saints Alive’?
“Wisdom is with aged men, with long life is understanding.” Job 12:12
Saints Alive is the name the senior adults gave themselves to distinguish their ministry in a special way. The group is centered on Christ and the loving fellowship we have together because of His great love for us. We invite friends and neighbors to socialize with us on a monthly basis. You do not need to be a member of the church to participate in the activities.

Monthly Activities
Throughout the year, we plan a variety of monthly gatherings for senior adults. The activities are varied and tailored to meet the physical, economical, and spiritual needs of seniors. The group is very helpful in suggesting things of interest to them. Not all the seniors may be able to attend every event, but throughout the year, there will be something for everyone!

Monthly activities include, but are not limited to…

  • Luncheons at the church by some of the finest cooks in our church!
  • Musical groups, speakers, comedians.
  • Day-trips to nearby sights of interest.
  • Local dinner theaters.
  • Boat rides down the Potomac River.
  • Movies, picnics, train rides.

We announce events well in advance in our weekly church newsletter, The Tie. Transportation to and from church is provided on request and parking for personal vehicles for lengthy programs or day-trips is made available free of charge. You can make reservations for the events by contacting Susan Manship, our Minister of Senior Adults.

Bible Study Classes

You can choose from two opportunities for Sunday Bible study: 9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.  We also have two Sunday worship services:  9:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.  You are also invited to join our mid-week prayer time and Bible study on Wednesday evenings at 6:30 p.m.

Resources for Enhancing Your Worship Experience
If you have difficulty hearing during the worship service, a small, ‘ear bud’ device is available upon request. In addition, large print hymnals and Bibles are located near the entrance of the sanctuary for your convenience.

Practicals Helps
In addition to fellowship opportunities, help may be arranged in assisting with doctor visits, running errands, grocery shopping, estate planning, housework, etc.

Periodicals
Feel free to pick up any of the Mature Living magazines we have in the hallway racks. The magazine contains interesting, humorous, and informative articles for senior living. Devotional guides are also available.
