What are the Requirements to Become a Downtown Member?

Step 1: You must repent of your sins and confess Jesus Christ as your personal Savior.

  • We are all sinners by nature and by choice.
    - “...for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23)
  • We cannot save ourselves.
    - “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
  • God has provided for the forgiveness of our sins.
    - “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” (I John 1:9)
  • God’s provision is Jesus Christ.
    - “For God so loved the world that he gave us his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
  • Every person must repent of their sins.
    - “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” (Acts 3:19)
  • Every person must place their faith in Jesus.
    - “If you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” (Romans 10:9)

Read this prayer and see if it says what you want to say to God. If so, then pray it to God.

“Dear God, I know that Jesus Christ is Your Son, and that He died on the cross for me. I believe that Jesus was raised from the dead. I know that I have sinned against You and need Your forgiveness. I am willing to turn from my sins and receive Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord. Thank You God, for forgiving me of my sins, and for giving me the gift of eternal life. Amen.”

Step 2: Contact either Carolyn Jenkins or Susan Manship with your decision. If you need to be baptized, the minister will explain the requirement of baptism and answer any questions you may have regarding this ordinance.

Step 3: You are introduced to the Downtown Family at the conclusion of a worship service. You are free to come forward any Sunday to join.
